Rui Miguel Marques
Brief Bio
Portuguese conductor Rui Miguel Marques is currently studying at the Norwegian Academy of Music (Oslo) under the guidance of Professor Ole Kristian Ruud, as part of his degree in Orchestral Conducting.
Since February 2024, Rui has also been part of Dirigentforum Junior - Talent Norge and Dirigentløftet’s Elite Program for young conductors. By being part of Dirigentforum Jr, Rui has worked with Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra and Orkester Ø, as well as participated in masterclasses with Leif Ove Andsnes, Stefan Dohr, Wolfram Christ, Eivind Aadland and Alf Årdal.

During his studies, Rui has worked with various orchestras worldwide such as: Kecskemet Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonietta Dresden, Berlin Sinfonietta, Hærens Musikkorps, Forsvarets Stabsmusikkorps, LCW Festival Orchestra, Atlantic Coast Orchestra and Alto Minho Youth Orchestra. Recent highlights also include the invitation as Guest Conductor in FIPOG (International Piano and Orchestra Festival in Guadalajara) with the West Mexico Symphony Orchestra in Teatro Degollado, where Marques shared the stage with soloists such as Bernardo Santos and Patrick Orr.

In the last few years, Rui has also participated in masterclasses with Jorma Panula, Johannes Schlaefli, Nicólas Pasquet, Neil Thomson, Howard Williams, Edward Gardner, Colin Metters, John Farrer, Luis Clemente and Cesário Costa.
Before his bachelor’s degree, Rui studied, for four years, with British Conductor Timothy Henty and previously with Portuguese Conductor Alexandre Madeira.
